Today, I am going to list down my absolute favourite five food delivery restaurants in Chennai. I may not be the anaconda that goes out and religiously writes Zomato reviews (those were the days) anymore, but I still find time to order food delivery whenever I feel like it.
What I order may change depending on my mood, and how hungry I am at that moment, but in this blog I want to cover places I am loyal to and repeatedly order from when I decide to dine in. So let’s begin with the top 5 food delivery restaurants from Chennai I would personally recommend.
1/ Little Italy - A comforting plate of pasta
Italian is right up there in my top five cuisines, and I am extremely cautious about where I eat Italian in Chennai, and what I order in those restaurants. Little Italy does not provide a very consistent experience in its delivery and dining across various outlets, but it still remains a top choice for my take away pleasures.
A hot bowl of pasta is a craving that often leaves me restless, and when I am not making my own pasta, I count on Little Italy to satisfy those cravings instantly.
Which branch to order from: Nungambakkam, Anna Nagar, Adyar (In that order)
What to order: Aglio Olio (They always accommodate my requests for tagliatelle, and to have the pasta well done.) I also really like their Spaghetti Puttanesca. (Spicy and dirty, just so comforting!)
2/ Ratna Cafe - Idlis from heaven with the most delicious sambar of all times
Of course, nothing beats going to Triplicane, ordering a plate of sambar idli, and then asking for repeat servings of Sambar as the server brings you a bucket full of goodness you want to drown in.
The next best alternative is to order food delivery from Ratna Cafe Triplicane. This is a cure for all kinds of illness. Every time a migraine hits me, this is the food that comforts me, and brings me all kinds of warmth. This is also my personal favourite sambar in all of Chennai.
I really do not argue with people who eat from Sangeetha, A2B and Murugan Idli. I just judge them silently, and drink more sambar from my own cup.
Which branch to order from: Triplicane and Triplicane only. I am deeply disappointed with the others.
What to order: Idli Sambar is the ultimate dish here, I would also vouch for their Ghee Pongal and Sambar.
3/ Asia Kitchen - Crispy pan fried noodles with a beautiful cantonese sauce
I am not a big fan of Indo-Chinese, and when I do feel like Chinese cuisine, I turn to Asia Kitchen and the Mainland China chains. In my opinion, they are able to include some bold flavours in their menu without completely desi-fying the dishes.
So the next time you want to bite into some crunchy corn, or Singapore chilli prawns, or feel like some spicy noodles, try this one out.
Which branch to order from – I have the best experience with the Nungambakkam one. I’d recommend that.
What to order: My favourites are Pan fried Noodles in Cantonese sauce, Singapore Chilli Prawns, Prawn dimsums.
4/ Idlies - Traditional brahmin style food that never disappoints
On days when rice is the only thing that I want and need, I turn to Idlies – my trusted contemporary brahmin style food force. I admire them for their limited offerings, and the ability to get each of them right. I can say with guarantee that theirs is the best Morkali I have ever tasted, and it has given me so much happiness on days when you just need something tangy, spicy and salty all the way.
Which branch to order from : You can either order from Idlies or Bowld, they belong to the same company.
What to order – Just about any of their sadham varieties. I love the Morkuzhambu Sadham, Vathakuzhambu Sadham, Rasam Sadham, and of course my winner is their Morkali.
5/ Amadora - Lemon Sorbet to die for
Desserts do not tempt me so much generally. The only thing I cannot resist is a good tangy sorbet. I would never say no to a good lemon, raspberry or strawberry sorbet.
The lemon sorbet at Amadora is my favourite in the city, and is my go to dessert when I am reeling in pain from cramps, or just having a bad day. Must try! : )
I also love Amadora’s salted caramel icecream, and their filter coffee icecream deserves a mention too, but nothing like the lemon sorbet to life my spirits.
Which branch to order from: Nungambakkam
What to order: Lemon Sorbet, Salted Caramel ice cream and Filter coffee ice cream.
There ends my list! It was tough to choose five, but I would never replace any one of these. Let me know what are your favourite food joints to order from in the comments below.
